# What a listing is and is not

Lesson 1 of [How to read an opioid treatment listing](https://opioidtreatment.fyi/academy/read-an-opioid-treatment-listing.md), 10 minutes.

The Opioid Treatment Directory lists services that offer methadone, buprenorphine or naltrexone for opioid dependence. It lists clinics, programmes, prescribers and dosing sites.

## A listing is a record

A listing is a record from a public source or from the provider. It is not an endorsement. The site is an independent directory. It is not a clinic, a pharmacy or a government agency.

## What a listing does not show

A listing does not show how good a service is. It does not show that the service has a place for you now. It does not show which medication is right for you.

## Who decides about treatment

A qualified clinician decides about treatment with you. Talk to a doctor, pharmacist or other qualified clinician before you start, stop or change treatment. This site gives no medical advice.

## Use the directory to prepare

Use a listing to find a service, to see what it says it offers and to plan a call. Then phone the service and check the facts yourself.
